The Bombardment of Sydney was a bombing by the British Air Force that took place in Sydney during the British-Australian War. In 3 separate air raids on the 19th June 2006, the British Air Force dropped high explosive bombs on the city center of Sydney. The bombings itself and the resulting fires killed 12,178 civilians and destroyed millions of pounds worth of infrastructure. The Prime Minister James Jones and his staff fled by plane to Brisbane just 4 minutes before the first raid started. Many countries criticized Britain after the attacks saying the attack showed "no respect for human life". Files and documents released by the British government after the war showed that David Blake ordered the attacks and those who refused were charged with treason and imprisoned.
